Green Tea

EGCG-powered antioxidant defense against aging and damage

Defends

EGCG neutralizes free radicals up to 100× more effectively than Vitamin C alone.

Calms

Polyphenols suppress inflammatory pathways that cause redness and irritation.

Balances

Regulates sebum production and reduces acne-causing bacterial activity.

What it is

Green Tea Extract (Camellia Sinensis) is one of the most extensively researched antioxidant ingredients in skincare. Its power comes primarily from EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) — a catechin polyphenol that is among the most potent free radical scavengers ever identified. Green tea also contains caffeine, theanine, vitamins C and E, and a spectrum of catechins that together provide anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and photoprotective benefits.

How it works

EGCG works through multiple mechanisms simultaneously. As an antioxidant, it donates hydrogen atoms to neutralize free radicals — and unlike many antioxidants, EGCG can neutralize multiple radicals per molecule before being depleted. As an anti-inflammatory, it inhibits NF-κB and AP-1 transcription factors — the master switches for inflammation and collagen degradation. As a photoprotective agent, it absorbs UV radiation and reduces UV-induced DNA damage. It also inhibits 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT — reducing sebum production and acne activity. This breadth of action makes green tea one of the most versatile active ingredients available.

Green Tea Extract in Our Formulations

Green tea skincare is backed by more published research than almost any other botanical — and the reason is EGCG for skin, a polyphenol serum compound with green tea antioxidant power that dwarfs conventional vitamins. As a camellia sinensis extract, green tea anti-aging benefits come from blocking the very transcription factors that trigger collagen breakdown — not just neutralizing radicals after damage is done. For green tea for acne, its sebum-regulating and antimicrobial properties address breakouts from both sides. Combined with green tea UV protection that reduces DNA damage from sun exposure, it creates a comprehensive defense system. Paired with Vitamin C for water-soluble antioxidant coverage, Vitamin E for lipid-layer protection, and Rosemary Extract for formula stability. Supported by Niacinamide for oil control and Aloe Vera for soothing hydration — all on a Ceramide 3 foundation. Explore the full formulation in The Serum C+E on Amazon.

Why we chose it

Vitamin C and E are powerful antioxidants. EGCG from green tea is stronger than both — and it works through entirely different pathways. By combining all three in our formulations, we create a multi-layered antioxidant defense: Vitamin C works in water-soluble spaces, Vitamin E in lipid layers, and EGCG blocks the transcription factors that trigger collagen breakdown in the first place. Paired with Ceramide 3, this triple antioxidant system protects the barrier from oxidative damage while ceramides reinforce it structurally.
