Collagen

Skin's most abundant structural protein — and a lightweight surface hydrator in your serum

Hydrates

Acts as a humectant on the skin's surface, binding moisture for an immediate smoothing effect.

Smooths

Forms a light conditioning film that softens the look of fine lines and rough texture.

Cushions

Creates a protective surface layer that helps skin feel more supple throughout the day.

What it is

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and the primary structural protein in skin — making up roughly 70–80% of the dermis’s dry weight. It’s what gives skin its firmness, structure, and elastic bounce, forming a supportive network alongside elastin and other proteins in the extracellular matrix. As skin ages, its own collagen production slows, contributing to thinner, less resilient-looking skin over time. In skincare, Collagen (often listed as Collagen or Hydrolyzed Collagen) is used as a topical ingredient valued for its moisturizing and surface-conditioning properties.

How it works

Native collagen is a large molecule — roughly 300,000 Daltons — far too big to pass through the outermost layer of skin, which is generally only permeable to molecules under about 500 Daltons. Even hydrolyzed collagen, broken down into smaller peptide fragments, is typically still too large for meaningful penetration into the dermis. Because of this, topical collagen’s role is primarily as a humectant: it sits on the skin’s surface, attracts and binds water, and forms a thin conditioning film that can temporarily smooth texture and soften the look of fine lines. This is a different mechanism from Peptides — certain small signal peptides are able to interact with skin cells and encourage the skin’s own collagen-producing machinery, which is why both are used together in a well-built formula.

Collagen in Our Formulations

Collagen skincare works best as a supporting player, not a headline act. As a topical humectant, collagen for skin helps hold moisture at the surface while Peptides work to encourage your skin’s own collagen synthesis from within. Combined with Hyaluronic Acid for deeper hydration and Vitamin C to support the collagen-building process itself — all grounded in a Ceramide 3 barrier foundation, so surface hydration has something structurally sound to sit on. Why we chose it

Most collagen-based products lean on the word “collagen” as marketing shorthand for anti-aging, without addressing what topical collagen can and can’t actually do. We include it for what it’s good at: surface hydration and a smoother, more supple feel — not as a substitute for structural repair. That’s what Peptides and Ceramide 3 are for. Collagen adds a light, moisture-binding finish on top of a formula already built to support your skin’s actual structure.
